Name of Assignment: Working with H.A.R.F
Subject: Community Engagement
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Ford
Description of Work/Assignment:
For the H.A.R.F project that I'm talking about, we had to either help build a cart for a two-legged dog or present a form of media that can help teach others about H.A.R.F. My group did a video that would hypothetically be presented to children in 1st-3rd grades. The video was about how you should approach a dog.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
The 21st-century skill I think we used most for this assignment was Civic Literacy and Engagement. Now to explain why I chose this 21st Century Skill. Out of the four I had left to choose from this seemed most fitting. A summary of the Skill is the ability to analyze and participate in a community locally or globally to impact the daily lives of others. In this sense, we had taken the ability to analyze and participate in teaching younger kids and older families about H.A.R.F which had also impacted the daily lives of not only the people who could have learned more about H.A.R.F but also the H.A.R.F employees and the animals at H.A.R.F
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
For this assignment, I was most proud of the way we as a group were able to finish this project and get it to a reasonable finished product. I think we had a great idea and a head start but honestly, as we went through with it, the plan slowly started to fade and it left only a few people still working on it. But in the end, we still got a 95/100 so I think it's okay.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I think I developed this 21st-century skill which in this case was, Civic Literacy and Engagement. I had never really had to reach out and teach something to my community in the school. Though I have done this before within girl scouts, it was just a bit different with all the people from my school, and for something like H.A.R.F
What was most difficult about completing this task?
During this assignment, I think the most difficult thing would be the communication portion of the assignment. Multiple times I and one other person from my group were the only people working. In the end, the person who was in charge of turning in the project didn't. So I had to go find it and email her about it.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over I would definitely have tried a different approach, maybe a more engaging topic so others in the group would have maybe paid attention.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past and how can you apply this to future learning?
This relates to what I've done in the past by taking what we had previously learned about H.A.R.F and other common-sense things about how to approach a dog and then presenting it in a video.
